ABSTRACT: As environmental challenges grow in complexity, the role of regulatory agencies in protecting public health and the environment has never been more critical. This presentation introduces graduate students in chemical and environmental engineering at the University of Arizona to ADEQ and its Air Quality Division. Attendees will gain an overview of ADEQ's organizational structure, mission, and regulatory authority. The presentation will focus specifically on the Air Quality Division's programs, including planning, permitting, compliance management, monitoring and assessment. The presentation will allow ample time for questions.

BIOSKETCH: Daniel Czecholinski was appointed as ADEQ's air quality director in October 2019. His role as director involves protecting public health and the environment by helping control present and future air pollution sources. In this position, he oversees the following Arizona air quality programs: the ambient monitoring network, pollution forecasting, compliance and enforcement, permitting, vehicle emissions inspections and the development of state implementation plans and rules.

Daniel has been with ADEQ since November 2006, holding several positions in the Water Quality Division, including the drinking water value stream manager, where he was responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act through various ADEQ programs.

Prior to joining ADEQ, Daniel had a 15-year career with Clean Harbors and Laidlaw Environmental Services and received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
