Armin Sorooshian, University Distinguished Scholar and professor of chemical and environmental engineering, wins Researcher of the Year at the 2026 College Awards.

The University of Arizona College of Engineering has grown its research spending by 160% over the last six years. These successes were honored at the 2026 College of Engineering Awards luncheon.

Among those recognized was CHEE professor Armin Sorooshian, who took home the award for Researcher of the Year. Sorooshian's research focuses on the effect of aerosol particles on the environment, clouds and rainfall, climate and public health.

The professor led a $30 million NASA-funded study investigating clouds over the western North Atlantic Ocean. In 2023, a team led by Sorooshian won NASA’s Group Achievement Award.

"We're just learning more about it because of our more advanced methods, which is only going to help us in the future," Sorooshian said in an interview with KJZZ.
