I recently retired after a 35-year career with PETRONAS Global, an oil and gas company headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. The company sponsored my degree at the UA. In 1997. I received the British Chevening Award for my MBA at Aston University in England.

At PETRONAS, I attained key roles including country chairman of PETRONAS South Sudan. I traveled to more than 50 countries including Gabon, Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia in Africa; Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran in the Caspian region; Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico in South America; and Canada in North America.

I was instrumental in many successful PETRONAS ventures and acquisitions, bringing the company’s work to Mexico, Oman and Brazil.

My wife, Putri Faridatul Akmar Megat Abdulaziz, received her BS in chemical engineering from UA in 1986, and her PhD in chemistry from the University of Birmingham in England. We are enjoying more time with our two adult children and our new daughter in-law, reconnecting with old friends, and exploring the wonders of the world.

We recently had an unforgettable expedition to the seventh continent wilderness – conquering the treacherous Drake Passage and getting up close and personal with penguins, whales and other wildlife.
